British Empire Vs Afghan Tribes | 1880 Battle of Kandahar | Total War Battle

The Battle of Kandahar, fought on September 1, 1880, marked the final major engagement of the Second Anglo-Afghan War. After suffering a significant defeat at Maiwand in July, British forces in Kandahar found themselves besieged by Ayub Khan, an Afghan commander. In response, General Frederick Roberts led a rapid 320-mile march from Kabul with a relief force of 10,000 troops. Upon arrival, Roberts immediately attacked Ayub Khan’s army, which was larger but less organized. The British employed superior tactics and artillery to secure a decisive victory, lifting the siege and forcing Ayub Khan to flee. This victory ended the war, restored British military prestige, and solidified the rule of a pro-British Afghan leader, Abdur Rahman Khan. However, it also led Britain to adopt a more cautious, non-interventionist policy in Afghanistan for years to come.
