Chaos has erupted at Columbia University after anti-Israel protesters broke into and occupied one of the school’s buildings on Tuesday. Protesters smashed windows and pushed their way into Hamilton Hall as their battle with the university officials continued. NYPD officers were seen in riot gear right outside Columbia University as a raid on the school was reportedly imminent. A student organiser spoke to Al Jazeera and revealed the protesters who occupied Hamilton Hall are not related to the activists on Columbia’s lawn. Columbia University spokesperson Ben Chang said the students at Hamilton Hall are facing expulsion. “Protesters have chosen to escalate to an untenable situation — vandalizing property, breaking doors and windows, and blockading entrances — and we are following through with the consequences we outlined yesterday,” he said.
