Dr. T. Serena and Dr. Windy Cole provide this short “video abstract” from the newly published paper, “Diagnostic Accuracy of Point-of-Care Fluorescence Imaging for the Detection of Bacterial Burden in Wounds: Results from the 350-Patient FLAAG Trial". Published in Advances in Wound Care https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.108... the results of a 350-patient, 14 site and 20 investigator study are shared assessing the diagnostic accuracy of point-of-care fluorescence imaging (MolecuLight i:X) to improve identification of wounds with high bacterial burden (>10⁴ CFU/g) compared to clinical signs and symptoms (CSS) during routine wound assessment. Select results include: • Fluorescence imaging combined with CSS improved detection of wounds with bacterial loads>10⁴ CFU/g by 4-fold compared to CSS alone. • Fluorescence imaging led to improvements to patient care in 90% of study wounds and changed clinical treatment plans in 68.9% of wounds. • Fluorescence imaging had the greatest impact on wound assessment, followed by treatment selection, antimicrobial stewardship and wound bed preparation.
