Rush Hour | Ninja Gaiden 4 It was only a matter of time before Ninja Gaiden joined its contemporaries. So here's the deal with being a 3D Ninja Gaiden fan: there are precisely two good games, and the last one came out in 2008. That's it. Black replaces 2004, the Sigma entries are inferior ports, 3 is an abomination, Razor's Edge is a slightly better abomination, and the less said about Yaiba the better. So believe me, I get it. If Ninja Gaiden DIDN'T get a reboot, the series would continue to tread water. It was dead. The only way to resurrect this monster was to Frankenstein this bitch: add new pieces and transform it into something new, hoping to attract new players. Will it sell? Probably. But for people that love Black and 2, I don't think this entry will join the ranks. I hope it does, but knowing Platinum, this isn't gonna make the cut. This is somewhat similar to what Ninja Gaiden 3 went through. The new director wanted to put a fresh spin on the formula to attract new players. That meant quick time events, forced walking, a ton of story, sneaking segments, a skill tree, more playable characters, and gimmick bosses that make you wanna take that sword and do you-know-what. It failed, fans hated it, and now we get to relive that scenario with Ninja Gaiden 4. Let's try appealing to new players once again, because it worked so well last time. Am I jaded? Maybe a little, but I don't hate modern action games. I'm disappointed that modern sequels play nothing like their predecessors. Devil May Cry and Bayonetta did just fine with one playable character. Sequels sometimes fall for the trap of trying to one-up their predecessors, but they don't need to be these grandiose, overambitious projects. Just make a fun game. I'm still replaying Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2. I will never replay Ninja Gaiden 3. Will I replay Ninja Gaiden 4?
