LATIN ENSEMBLE CONCERT directed by Mario Caribé featuring Year 3 BMus Jazz Students & special guest Steve Forman Students on the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s internationally acclaimed jazz course explore the Latin American music that has created a popular fusion with jazz over the past seventy years in a concert for the head, heart and feet. With recordings such as saxophonist Stan Getz’s bossa nova classic with Brazilian guitarist João Gilberto and through musicians and composers including Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal and Oscar Hernández, the rhythms of Brazil and the Afro-Caribbean traditions have become integral parts of the jazz melting pot. Under the guidance of bass tutor and respected bandleader Mario Caribe, the Conservatoire’s Latin Ensemble plays arrangements that honour these traditions while taking Bossa Nova, Cha-cha-chá, Baião, Mambo, and Bolero forward with melodic creativity and jazz harmony into a thoroughly satisfying and exciting meeting of the old and the new, the authentic and the original. Joined by Los Angeles session veteran and course teacher Steve Forman, whose sublime percussive talents and tirelessly researched knowledge of rhythms have enhanced innumerable artists’ recordings, from Sergio Mendez to Pink Floyd, the RCS Latin Ensemble promises percussive fireworks, irresistible grooves and instantly memorable melodies. • Agua de Beber - A.C.Jobim • Latin Perspective - O.Hernadez • Drume Negrita - E.Negret • La Na Casa Da Madame Eu Vi - H.Paschoal • Midnight Mambo - O.Hernandez Personnel Loic Guenneguez - trumpet/piano Sean Megaw - alto/soprano sax Rachel Duns - tenor sax/flute Jack Schendel- tenor sax Laurie Moore - acoustic/electric bass Kenny Lyons - drum kit Steve Forman - percussion (guest) Mario Caribé - rhythm guitar Sound mixed by Bob Whitney Live monitoring by Gerrie Victor Live video editing by Tommy Smith
