Sebart Avanti XS 1.9M | 14S / 58.8V | Schubeler 120MM EDF | ULTIMATE RC ELECTRIC SPORT JET On balance a turbine engine is still the better power option for large jets such as the Avanti XS but the performance gap to EDF is closing. For turbines the thrust is higher and the landing weight lower so why did I choose to convert this large RC jet to EDF? Basically because there are fewer and fewer places to fly turbine powered aircraft due to the perceived noise and fire risk. Some clubs only allow electric ducted fan powered (EDF) jets to fly at their flying sites. When I first flew this EDF jet a few months ago on 14S12000 I had 44% usable capacity remaining. A 5.5 to 6 minute flight time would be achievable but the jet felt heavy to fly with relatively low top speed and limited vertical performance. I decided to try 14S6000 flight battery and this video shows I got a good 4 minute flight time with 35% capacity still left in the pack.
