In this video I'm trying (again!) to get some L-band satellite signals with a re-purposed wireless networking dish. I've got a helical antenna feed made of scrap wire and a cookie can, a software defined radio, and a Nooelec SAWbird+GOES filter to boost the L-band signals. I initially tried using my MobileDemand tablet / "mini cyberdeck", but it turned out to be too slow and laggy to record High Rate Picture Transmission (HRPT) data streams. A regular modern-ish laptop worked much better for that. I'm using SDR++ to record the signals (https://www.sdrpp.org/) I'm using SatDump to decode the data into imagery (https://www.satdump.org/) Here are some resources I've found helpful for doing this: https://sgcderek.github.io/blog/begin... https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=... https://wettersat.bplaced.net/equipme... https://usradioguy.com/ The hardware I'm using can be found here: RTL-SDR: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BMKB3L47?... SAWbird+GOES: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1M39H4?... And you can find more gadgets I like on my Amazon page (I get a kickback from this as an affiliate): https://www.amazon.com/shop/saveitfor...
