I (WHO HAVE NOTHING) - Ben E. King (1963) This song was based on the 1961 Italian song, "Uno Dei Tanti" ("One of Many"), with music by Carlo Donida and lyrics by Giulio "Mogol" Rapetti. The 1961 release of "Uno Dei Tanti" was sung by the Italian singer Joe Sentieri. The English lyrics were written by Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller. Leiber & Stoller produced the Ben E. King record using the backing track from Joe Sentieri's record (orchestra conducted by the Argentine film score composer, Luis Enriquez Bacalov). Other renditions by Ben E. King of this song that I've found on YouTube appear to be later recordings than this original 1963 version. In my opinion, those later renditions/recordings lack the vocal strength and power of this original. As a point of comparison, I appreciate the difference between Ben E. King's rendition of this song (1963), and that by Tom Jones (1970). I appreciate the Jones rendition for its power and passion, and the "bigness" of the production. I appreciate the King rendition for its more restrained delivery and the intimate, soulful quality of his voice.
