Nancy Pickard, Executive Director of Peerless Rockville, details the history of Rockville, Maryland and the town's transformation after World War II. In the 1940s, Rockville had a modest population of 2,000, and by 1960, it had skyrocketed to over 26,000 residents. The post-war era brought about a wave of growth and change, with the emergence of diverse architectural styles and innovative housing developments. Joseph Geeraert, a prominent developer, played a crucial role in shaping Rockville's suburban landscape, offering residents a variety of homes from which to choose. Strip shopping malls, exemplified by the iconic Congressional Plaza, became integral to the community. Today, Rockville is a thriving city, where a rich tapestry of 120 different ethnicities and nationalities is represented. Stella Fernandez, proud owner of Gwenie's Pastries, which specializes in Filipino and Asian desserts, shares how her family's culinary traditions blend with innovative flavors, creating mouthwatering treats like the popular Ube Cheesecake.
