Hippos Prevent Lioness From Crossing a River in the Okavango Delta

Filmed in Botswana's Khwai Concession on the edge of the Okavango Delta. We found this lioness roaring early one morning close to our campsite at Magotho. She listened carefully and heard her pride responding. Once she had an idea of where they were, the marched closer, until she came to the edge of the Khwai River. It was very deep and wide where she first tried to cross, and a protective hippo mother and her calf did want her to pass. She tried again further downstream, and this time she was able to swim across safely to where the rest of the pride was waiting for her.
