2025 Toyota GR Corolla vs FL5 Honda Civic Type-R | Whats The Better Hot Hatch?

👋 Today lets compare my FL5 Honda Civic Type-R against the 2025 Toyota GR Corolla! These are two of the most fun hot hatches on the market and offer a very exciting drive! The FL5 Honda Civic Type-R packs a 2.0L Inline 4 cylinder turbo engine with 315 Horsepower. It's only front wheel drive with a 6 speed manual transmission. The GR Corolla packs a 1.6L Inline 3 cylinder turbocharged engine with 300 Horsepower. The GR Corolla is only all wheel drive and has either a 6 speed manual or 8 speed automatic transmission. My FL5 Type-R was pre-owned and I paid $45k with just 2k miles. This 2025 GR Corolla is the Premium trim and also costs right at $45k. Overall these are both really fun to drive and I've driven the GR Corolla on the track and it was a blast! Owning my FL5 Civic Type-R for several months and multiple mountain drives, its a blast too! So how does the FL5 Honda Civic Type R compare to the 2025 GR Corolla? The Civic Type-R has a better interior. Feels more premium and a nicer dash layout with a better multi media screen. The bucket seats are amazing and ultra comfortable. The Type-R is also more roomy with better interior space. Back seats can fit adults and the cargo space is huge! GR Corolla is a bit small on the interior. Seats look nice but are nowhere near as supportive as the Type-R bucket seats. They are comfortable, but the Type-R bucket seats are next level! GR Corolla dash is a bit basic and the screen is basic. Back seats are tight and cargo space is about half as small. However the GR Corolla has better ride quality. It's suspension is more forgiving and feel like a more premium ride. Type-R can be a bit hard on the bumps. The GR Corolla having AWD is more ideal and offers better tracking. The 3 cylinder engine delivers power better with less turbo lag. However it's not as reliable of an engine as we've seen some issues. SO it really is a toss up but I still prefer the Type-R since the bucket seats are incredible and the interior is nicer. But the you can't argue with the high end ride quality and AWD in the GR Corolla. So if you don't need the space, the GR is an awesome choice! Especially since it has the automatic transmission available. But if you want more of a raw to drive car and want better interior space and design, the Type-R is a great choice too.
