Performing at her first ever World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan, in 2021, Urara Ashikawa wowed her home crowd and delivered a golden performance in the event final. To get to the event final, however, she had to survive qualification—she did, but by the smallest of margins. Ashikawa's incredible beam save in her qualifications balance beam routine is one of the most memorable moments of these World Championships, and it's fitting that she pulled out a gold medal-winning routine for the event finals, especially after her Olympic finalist performance. Team Japan had a fantastic Worlds at home: Ashikawa's teammate Mai Murakami also had a golden event final performance, though hers came on floor exercise. In this video, understand how Ashikawa received her difficulty score (or D score) and her execution score (or E score), all-in-one! The white number is her cumulative difficulty (it's calculated at the end); the red is her total deductions. Notes: I didn’t see any deductions in either of her ring leaps; all of them seemed clean to me. To see the positions, I recommend using the period and comma keys on a laptop, which lets you go frame-by-frame and see her strong flexibility. I paused at the apex of each leap. Her Switch Ring Leap (E) was particularly strong in the air, though the landing was not as clean. This is a great camera angle for ring leap deductions, but it is not as good for balance checks or determining step deductions. From a different angle and based off the score she received, I think 0.3 for a meter-long or more step on the dismount was correct. I didn't have many balance checks throughout her performance. I did not edit in her Wolf Jump (A) + Sissone (A) immediately following her acro series. It doesn’t add any value to her performance, but it is there. The thumbnail is a bit contrived :) While Ashikawa does go down to the beam, fulfilling the artistic requirement of touching her body onto it, she doesn't seem to include a complex element. None of her movements seemed intricate enough to fulfill that artistic requirement, so there is a tenth deduction on her E-score. The music that the arena was playing in the background flagged this video for copyright, so I've replaced it with music from the internet. I too like to listen to the sounds of the beam and the audience’s reactions, so I edited them in after her save and dismount, the two places where it felt most appropriate. To be honest, I like the chill and relaxing vibes that this editing creates—what do you think? -------------------------------------------------------------- ♪ Lamp (Prod. by Lukrembo) Link : • lukrembo - lamp (no copyright music) -------------------------------------------------------------- Did you enjoy this video?
