The 2025 PositiveNaija Freestyle Chess Competition is aimed at showcasing chess talent, held in Karu, Abuja. *Apologies for the illegal castling move by Black. The goal is to advance the game of chess as a tool of self discovery and mastery noting the powerful elements of courage, responsibility, sacrifice, creativity, critical-thinking, strategy, decision-making skills, patience, focus, balance, etc. Participation: Free Age: No restriction Touch and play: Yes Player colour: Coin toss Resignation: Loss by resignation is allowed Gender: Male and female can play each other Date: December 20, 2025 Game time: 15 minutes per person (no increment) Timeout: A participant automatically loses a game when out of time Prize: 1,000 Naira per win and certificate to the person with the most wins Piece movement: Once your fingers are off a moved piece, the move is final Fair play: Disqualification for any mocking or taunting of opponents or players Loss: A player who loses cannot continue to play in the competition for that day Draw outcome: A game can be regarded as a draw via 3-move repetition, stalemate or by insufficient material. Verbal offers are not allowed.
