When we have some creative impulse, insight, or intuition, where does that come from? Senior Buddhist teacher, David Nichtern, explains a saying that his teacher Tibetan Buddhist master, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, used to use, "First Thought, Best Thought." Trungpa Rinpoche wrote a book of poetry with the same name, and his student Allen Ginsberg used the phrase "First Thought, Best Thought" in his own work. It reminds me somewhat of some of the insights in Malcolm Gladwell's "Blink". David Nichtern is a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. David is also a well known composer, producer and guitarist, and a 4 time Emmy winner and Grammy nominee.
