I stay in a capsule hotel in Japan, give you a tour of a traditional area and get sent to Sweet Heaven when I try a traditonal Japanese dessert from Kantaro the Sweet Tooth Salaryman! I always wondered what it is like staying in a Japanese capsule hotel and even now it is one of my favourite things to do. Tourists taking a trip to Japan have also started to include staying in a capsule hotel as one of their must do things. This is why today I take a trip to a new Japanese capsule hotel, Hotel Zen Tokyo and visit a more traditional side of Japan in the historically rich and cultural district, Nihonbashi in Ningyocho. Hotel Zen Tokyo has a unique pod design that draws inspiration on the Japanese principles of Wabi Sabi The pods are are inspired by the Japanese principles and art of wabi-sabi. This capsule hotel’s pods are much larger than most other capsule hotels in Japan and with the tatami flooring and Japanese art pieces crafted by local artist, this capsule hotel resonates a tea house or even a traditional Japanese ryokan aesthetic. Hope you enjoy a little tour of this capsule hotel! Before spending the night at this Japanese capsule hotel we decided to explore the historic area of Ningyocho. Here you can also try some delicious traditional Japanese sweets from Kantaro the Sweet Tooth Salaryman!! I was so surprised when I realised that the traditional Japanese sweet cafe that Kantaro the Sweet Tooth Salaryman went to in the first episode was only a 4 minute walk from Hotel Zen Tokyo!! We decided to pay a visit to Kanmidokoro Hatsune after spending a night at the Hotel Zen Tokyo capsule hotel. The Anmitsu was delicious and is a must try traditional food if you are visiting Japan! What sets this Anmitsu place apart is where they get their ingredients from. Their sugar is from Okinawa, their Adzuki beans are from Hokkaido and the agar that makes up those delicious clear jelly like cubes are made from Izu Tengusa (that’s red seaweed)! All of these ingredients and flavours combine to form the perfect Japanese sweet dessert. No wonder Kantaro went to Sweets Heaven when he tasted it!!! If you like the look of Hotel Zen Tokyo then don’t forget to check out their website! https://www.hotelzen.jp Or alternatively if booking Hotel Zen Tokyo on https://www.booking.com/s/34_6/7c486051 you can use my link for £15 off your stay! Staying in a capsule hotel is a cheap and convenient way of travelling Japan. For me personally, it is the best thing to do when exploring smaller traditional areas of Tokyo. Hotel Zen Tokyo provides all the necessities and amenities you may need, as well as a very comfortable bed in tea house inspired pods! Staying in Hotel Zen Tokyo has allowed me to experience the modern aspects of Japan while still getting a taste of traditional arts and aesthetics.
