Furthermore, the cigars have been stored in a Boveda acrylic humidor with 69% Boveda packs for a period of three weeks to ensure that they were properly acclimated and ready to be evaluated. 00:45 Cigar Overview The Liga Privada project first started in 2006 in order to produce a cigar that its president, Steve Saka, would be happy to smoke. It experienced a limited release in 2007 before being included in the permanent line-up in 2011. It features a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, Brazilian Mata Fina binder, and Honduran and Nicaraguan filler. 02:10 Look & Feel You're looking at a straight roll with no discernable soft spots. The spring is generally firm but can be a little soft every now and then. It has a rich oily sheen with rustic and pronounced veins that only contribute to its overall charm. Its foot reveals notes of tonka bean, cedar, and moist earth. 04:03 Prelight Expect and ideal airflow and mild flavours, which again feature tonka bean but also olibanum, and dark chocolate. 04:41 Tasting Notes Excellent smoke output in the first third delivers notes of fresh walnut, cacao nib, and cedar. The second third required touching up but offered a tableau of leather, espresso, and black pepper. Finally, the last third consisted of leather, espresso, and black pepper. It's still a complex cigar with a velvety, heavy mouthfeel. It features great palate stimulation with a long and lingering finish. 10:57 Burn The temperature is perfectly cool with an ideal airflow. However, the burn line can get wavy and may require touch-ups as you smoke. Its ash can be incredibly strong as you can see in the written review linked above! 11:43 Overall Experience The Liga Privada retains an artisanal back-door look with what is styled as a hand-written band and rustic wooden box. While not everyone's style, it has a certain rugged appeal. Meanwhile, it can cost around $15 per stick. This may be a little pricey for some but given the unique experience it offers, we believe that it's worth the price. As for occasion, it's touch-and-go whether you'd take it to a formal event. However, it's a great cigar for late nights with friends when sharing a bottle of Scotch. 13:37 Pairings Consider pairing it with snacks like fresh walnuts, dark chocolate, or even caramelised peanuts. You can also opt for drinks including dark añejo rum, Fine Champagne cognac, or even a Highland single malt whisky. Already tried the Liga Privada No 9 cigar or have any questions?
