The Intel SSD 665p follows on the successful launch of the 660p, which brought QLC NAND to end user computing. The 665p offers 96-layer QLC NAND, with an SLC NAND cache; 12GB in the 1TB SSD and 24GB in the 2TB capacity. The drive itself is a single-sided 2280 M.2 form factor, ideally designed for thin and light notebooks, tablets and other space constrained applications. The Intel 665p picks up a 50% endurance boost over the 660p, going up to 300TBW in the 1TB SSD and 600TBW in the 2TB drive. Looking at performance, the 665p nets a little boost across the board, with the largest gains being in random 4KB writes, where the drive gets a 30,000 IOPS boost over the prior model, topping out at 250K IOPS for both capacities. In this review we take a look at the hardware and summarize the drive’s key specs, then put the drive to work to measure its performance capabilities in our lab.
