About the Play : Parbotia unfolds in the lush tea gardens where workers from distant lands forged a shared identity through the birth of the Chilomilo language a symbol of unity amidst diversity. Inspired by the tales of late Jaya Goala, the play captures the fragrance of a tea worker's life and struggle. Amidst this world, young Manglu and Parbatia (Paru) find love blossoming under the humble shades of the garden. Yet, their innocent bond clashes with rigid caste divisions and oppressive social codes led by the authoritarian Birsa Sardar. When Paru is forced into an arranged marriage to preserve her family's honour, the lovers defy the cruel order and flee into the night, seeking freedom and dignity. Through their journey, Parbotia becomes a poignant reflection on love, rebellion, and the unyielding spirit against the injustices rooted in a deeply divided society.
