The HDI stands for hybrid dual imaging, which is a combination of broadband sonar and DownScan sonar into one neat package. Sporting a 5 inch screen, the Elite-5 HDI has pretty decent screen real estate, letting you comfortably see sonar images, even in split screen mode. You can split the screen into a maximum of 3 sections, one for gps, one for broadband sonar, and one for downscan sonar. It's also possible to overlay downscan sonar onto the broadband, so you can see structure and fish arches on one screen without having to split it. The Elite-5 HDI comes with a powerful GPS and great maps, with the added option of Navionics maps, too. You can also create your own maps using insight genesis by uploading sonar data to Lowrance and downloading customized maps that are generated using that data. The fish finder is easy to use, compact, straightforward to install, and doesn't break the bank. It's perfect for fishermen of all skill levels!
