This week we are Mixing-It-Up in the kitchen with my friend and Style Guru, Ceci Johnson of Ceci New York to make an adorable Monster Cake for her son Mason's Monster Bash B-day party. LOOK DOWN BELOW for all the materials you'll need to make the cake. WHAT YOU NEED: Cake- THREE 6-inch round cakes Buttercream MATERIALS 2 skewers (for horns) 6-inch round cardboard-cut in the "shape" of monster bottom Serrated knife *Pre-dyed Lime green, hot pink, black fondant *Orange Gum paste (for horns) Rolling pin Round cutters: 1" and 2.5" Pastry Tips: #12, 109, and 804 Cornstarch Vegetable shortening Small Brush and water Paring Knife Scalpel (optional) Tape Measurer Veining tool Short Fur Impression Mat: from Marvelous Molds: http://bit.ly/1AV0CGQ Petal dusts: blue, green and yellow Fluffy brushes *(Fondarific brand is suggested- http://fondarific.com) STEPS: (make the horns ahead so they dry in time) 1) I baked THREE 6" round cakes. I sliced the domed top off of two but I left one intact so we can use that for the monsters curved head. I sliced all the cakes in half. 2) A pastry bag filled with my Vanilla buttercream and bowl filled with delicious Chocolate buttercream for the filling. 3) Place cakes on board and FILL Cakes 4) Stick CAKE in FREEZER for at least 20 minutes to firm up so we can carve it. 5) Carve cake in the shape of a cute Monster 6) FREEZE/or REFRIDGERATE CAKE while getting fondant ready 7) Measure cake and roll out Lime Green Fondant. 8) Use texture mat to create fur 9) Use pastry tips, round cutters and veining tool to create EYES, MOUTH and four circles on body. 10) Dust Monster with three colors: yellow, green, blue 11) Dust mouth in blue 12) Add two eyes, four polka dots, tongue and extra "hair" on top of head 13) Attach two horns (made ahead) 14) Attach to decorative base More info: Check out my BLOG: http://confetticakes.blogspot.com/ Website: http://www.confetticakes.com Facebook: / 58556641151 Twitter: / elisastrauss Craftsy: http://www.craftsy.com/instructors/el...
