RC Just Hit a New Level – Meet the SR-71

I finally flew the Freewing SR-71 Blackbird... one of the most iconic and ambitious RC EDF jets ever released. This was my maiden flight, and I’ll admit, I was nervous. The SR-71 is a legend in both full-scale and RC aviation, and piloting this twin 70mm foam jet felt like a big moment. My first flight was shaky as I got used to the jet’s presence and speed. I attempted to use the functional drag chute to help bring it down safely. For the second flight, after dialing in my expo settings, I landed using the reverse thrust feature, which performed flawlessly. The included 6-axis gyro stabilization gave me more control and confidence, especially during approach and landing. The scale details are absolutely stunning... retractable landing gear, full-flying vertical stabilizers, detailed molded panel lines, and even pilot figures in the cockpit. The twin 70mm 12-blade EDFs sound incredible in the air and give the model a turbine-like presence. This was just the beginning. In future flights, I’ll be adding the full decal set and possibly going FPV with head tracking to bring the SR-71 experience to life like never before.
