Chad & Jill Stuart - I Can't Talk To You (Bob Lind) 1966 B-side to "The Cruel War" Chad Stuart's version of Bob Lind's 'I Can't Talk To You' was the B-side of the only single he recorded with his wife, Jill, 'The Cruel War' (Columbia). Chad himself is better known as one-half of British Invasion duo Chad & Jeremy ("Yesterday's Gone," "A Summer Song.") The song is itself is so obscure that even the normally sharp Bob Lind can't remember much about it, although he does recall that he hated the opening line; "I can bring tears to the eyes of the rain." When Chad teamed up to make the record with Jill, in the summer of '65, Jeremy had temporarily run off to star in the London musical 'The Passion Flower Hotel.' "That was the first major divorce-there were several, and that was the first one and I was casting about for something to do," Chad recalls, explaining his musical pairing with his wife. "That was one of those might-have-beens, but it didn't work because she was afraid of it and couldn't do it. There were various dramas where we were supposed to go on TV and she was panicking in the dressing room. She wouldn't do it, and it was unfair of to to try and make her do it. I mean, a more intelligent human being would have either done it myself or found some professional who wanted to do it, and then my future would have been different." Nonetheless, Chad's future looks bright today, as he is working with actor/director David Hemmings on a new musical based on the Pied Piper, 'Oh, Rats!' Dawn Eden April, 1994 (Liner notes to CD compilation 'Have A Nice Life: More Great Breakup Songs Of The 60s')
