Woman Sentenced To Life For Stoning Friend to Death in Odisha

A woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly killing her friend by crushing her with a stone. On June 25, 2022, in Podasingidi village under Soso police station, Sara Nayak killed her friend Yashoda by crushing her with a stone. Based on the testimony of 15 witnesses and 12 documents, the Anandpur District Sessions Judge sentenced Sara Nayak to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000. The court also ruled that in default of payment of the fine, she would have to undergo an additional one year of imprisonment. Yashoda Patra, from the Thakurmunda area, was living with her daughter in Mathadahi village in Hatadihi block. While she and Sara Naik had gone to Podasingidi village to drink country liquor, an incident occurred, leading Sara to kill her by crushing her with a stone.
