Wengen and Lauterbrunnen are small beautiful villages you sometimes overlook when trying to cover the hot spots of Switzerland. In our last trip, even we skipped these places while we covered Jungfraujoch due to time constraints. But it was worth a second visit just to cover these cute spots. From Wengen, you have the option to chose hiking trails of different difficulty. We decided to explore only the Wengen village due to lack of time. The village itself was very beautiful with a lot of chalets, couple of churches and mountains in the background. You will also get a beautiful view of the Lauterbrunnen valley from here. Wengen and Lauterbrunnen are connected through cogwheel railway. There is also a trail from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen, but we decided to take a train due to lack of time. Lauterbrunnen is a valley with 72 waterfalls. It was not possible to cover all these waterfalls. So we followed a path from railway station that covers the major attractions. Staubachfall is the most famous landmark here, immortalized in many poems. The other two popular ones are Trümmelbachfall and Mürrenbachfall. Mürrenbachfall is the tallest waterfall in Switzerland. The speciality of Trümmelbachfall is being the largest underground waterfall in Europe.
