In this webinar, the ARDC team introduces the core concepts of dataspaces, explains how they differ from traditional platforms and Trusted Research Environments (TREs), and highlights the importance of data sovereignty, governance, and technical interoperability in building shared data ecosystems. It explains how international frameworks from the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) are being adapted for the Australian context, including a proof of concept dataspace testbed developed with RMIT University. The session walks through the architecture and building blocks of a dataspace, multi cloud and cross cloud data exchange, policy classes for controlling data use, and lessons learned from three national pilot projects (SEAF, Biosecurity, and the Testbed). The video closes with practical ways to get involved via the Australian Dataspaces Community of Practice and the Implementers Network.
