The CMBES IIDEA* Committee was honored to welcome Sheri Hundseth as a CMBES webinar presenter on March 27th, 2025! Sheri’s webinar “Patient Journey Mapping: Indigenous Patient Experiences in the Healthcare Setting” will be tailored to CMBES members, and practical advice will be shared about what biomedical/clinical/medical engineering departments can do to help break systemic barriers affecting Indigenous populations based on the results from Indigenous patient journey maps. We will hear firsthand from Indigenous patients what tangible changes we can make to: • Identify recurring issues in healthcare environments, including Indigenous-specific discrimination and racism. • Recognize the importance of Indigenous Cultural services and insights for providing more culturally safe care. • Reflect on priorities for change that emerged from patient experiences. • Reflect on our own cultural safety journey and identify opportunities to take action. Sheri Hundseth is Métis and was raised in Region 1, the Lac la Biche Region of Northern Alberta, and Treaty 8 Territory. Sheri is the Director of Indigenous Relations & Community Engagement at St. Paul’s Hospital (Providence Health Care). Prior to coming to Vancouver, Sheri spent six years with Covenant Health Canada as the Manager of Learning & Development and has worked many years in organizational development and change management. Throughout Sheri’s career, she has specialized in training, relationship building, coaching and leadership development. Sheri’s focus is to improve Indigenous cultural safety and to amplify Indigenous perspectives to improve health outcomes for people who are First Nations, Métis and Inuit. She has been a board member for the Alzheimer’s Society of BC since 2022. Sheri holds an Executive MBA from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Education from University of Alberta. *IIDEA stands for Indigenization, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility.
