11475 For centuries, the expansive emotions and philosophical reflections embodied in Wang Xizhi’s 𝐿𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑒 have transcended time through precious, ink‑faded rubbings. Through these works, a quiet dialogue has flowed across generations, touching the hearts of literati age after age. In the video 𝑂𝑟𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑑 𝑃𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛: 𝐴 𝐷𝑖𝑎𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑢𝑒 𝐴𝑐𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑠 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒, we invite audiences to stand amidst the presence of these revered national treasures and, using contemporary audiovisual language, reopen this letter from the Eastern Jin. With immersive imagery, newly adapted classical music, and English translation, the work guides audiences from different cultural backgrounds to listen together to this dialogue across time. Here, the 𝐿𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑒 is not only the “Greatest Masterpiece of Running Script Calligraphy”, but a resonant force that reaches the visible traces of brush and ink, quietly connecting past and present, East and West, you and me. This video was conceived and translated by the Dr. Peggy Ho and produced by the Audio-Visual Division of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUAV). The music, Bach’s 𝐶𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑜 𝑆𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑒 𝑁𝑜. 1 – 𝑅𝑒𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑑 (𝑓𝑒𝑎𝑡. 𝐴𝑟𝑑𝑖𝑒 𝑆𝑜𝑛) was reinterpreted by musician Ardie Son.
