I had the honor of shooting behind the scenes of Tyrese’s first album in 7 years entitled, “Beautiful Pain.” Watching an adept musician create a thing—a form—from the art of their mind is a thing to behold and as you will see in this video, I had a first hand account of the process from beginning to end. It was truly and incredible thing to witness. Inspiring. These guys and gals are master vocalists, producers, musicians, singers and songwriters. From the likes of Eric Dawkins, Alec Zander (BAM), Eric Bellinger, Asaleana (ISA), and many more. It was more than just a studio session. More than just a musical boot camp, it was a place and time for healing and growth, on all levels, and it was as if the beautiful pain of life, love, divorce, and family, were, as it were, bleeding into the tracks of life thereby synthesizing and becoming one—the notes of the soul into harmonic melody. I imagined it as watching a star form together to explode it’s light onto the universe. Pow! Magic! Tyrese did a great job Phil “Jacksoning” the ship. When the waves push it off course, he was there to gently navigate through the waters of life, emotion, and trauma to conduct a sonic masterpiece. I tried to capture the many nuances of sound, idiom, and even innuendo in its most natural state, ever in search of that decisive moment that does not return. And after 30+ straight days of sleepless nights and many a talk of marriage, relationships, and love, Beautiful pain was born. I hope you enjoy. P.S. it’s best to wear headphones 😉
