For a third time on September 19th, 1863 Confederate General Braxton Bragg ordered a fresh division to move in to an escalating fight. This time Maj. Gen. Alexander P. Stewart's from its position at Thedford Ford around noon. Stewart encountered retreating Confederates from Benjamin Cheatham’s division at the Brock farm. Cheatam’s division had been heavily engaged along the Brotherton rd when it was struck on it’s left Flank by Union forces under the command of Brig. Gen. Horatio Van Cleve.
