Age wood 30 years in 5 Minutes with Milk Paint. Here is an amazing wood finishing technique (trick) to age wood 30 years in 5 minutes. This a great life hack for finishing cherry in the workshop on your next woodworking project. This is for do it yourself (DIY) woodworkers or for professionals. And all it takes is some milk paint that does not have any dye in it. The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company sells a Base-No Pigment option for their milk paint ( https://www.milkpaint.com/product/bas... ) that in intended to have dye added to it so that you can create your own custom colors. But you can use it to darken cherry (this also works well for white oak) so that it has that aged patina that takes years to achieve, all in 5 minutes or less. The wood darkens because of the chemical interaction between the lye in the milk paint and the tannins in the wood. This causes rapid oxidation of the wood and mimics the darkening that normally happens over time. All you need to do is to mix up the Base - No Pigment milk paint using 2-3 times the amount of water and then brush it onto your wood and let is sit for 5 minutes and then wash it off. It is as easy as that. Because it is a water based product, it is a good idea to raise the grain of your wood and sand back before applying.
