Dear Friends, A few minutes of Bible Shots to learn Bible in Sequence Lesson 71- Jacob blesses Joseph’s Sons (Genesis 47:27-48:1-22) 1. Jacob and his family settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen and were fruitful and multiplied exceedingly. Jacob lived for 17 years in Egypt and he was 147 years old. 2. When Jacob felt that it was time for his death, he called his son Joseph and requests to bury him in their ancestors place after his death and not in Egypt. Joseph places his hands under Jacob’s thigh and promises to fulfill it. 3. Joseph knew that his father Jacob is close to death, so he brings his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim. Seeing them Jacob is ready to impart a deathbed blessing. Jacob adopts Joseph’s sons as his own sons to indicate that they are also legally part of their family. 4. Jacob’s blessing is communicated by the laying on of hands. Joseph attempts to make it easy for his father to put his right hand on Manasseh, the first born but Jacob lays his right hand on his 2nd son Ephraim. It is presumed that the right hand gives greater blessing. Joseph is not happy with the change of blessing but Jacob is adamant to give right hand blessing to his younger Ephraim. 5. The solemn blessing refers to God in 3 ways: 1) God of Abraham and Isaac who walked with them; 2) God who shepherded Jacob; and 3) the Angel who delivered Jacob. Ephraim’s special blessing indicates his eventual leadership over all the tribes. Finally, Jacob reminds God’s promise to Joseph that he will return to the land promised to the fathers. #bible#jacobblessesjosephsons#bibleshots#joseph#jacob
