Countryside cemeteries are an adventure unto themselves, some prompt rubbernecking, some don't. The abandoned church was perhaps the voice that called and the stop a worthy one. Founded in 1829, I can only imagine the current structure was the former site of the Salem Baptist Church, but may be mistaken. It makes sense to the surrounding burials, which, if so, would technically make it a graveyard but haven't quite done the follow-up research. Good plush grass for napping in under a tree if you need it. Such places remind how communities used to build, make, grow, and supply things to each other, their neighbors versus the ease of having everything shipped in turning our self sufficient towns into suburbia with golf courses and fast food. Is that really progress? Me thinks not. But remember, we only left the farms as a civilization a little over 100 years ago so with cemeteries like these, I'm always tempted to say - "meet the real people, meet the real residents."
