I invited Darryn Eggleton, a wildlife artist, to come and share his journey to becoming the amazing artist he is today, and how he has navigated bringing himself out from behind the canvas to tell his story with his audiences and clients. You’ll enjoy listening to this one - Darryn is friendly, down to earth and is passionate about his artwork - which has been his mainstay over the last 25 years. He truly is an artist down to the core, in his thoughtful curiosity of the natural world, and his drive to build emotion and mindful reflection into his art. 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦: In this episode Darryn and I chatted about: • How he came to do the work that he does today. He shares how he started drawing at young age and it’s his passion for the animals and bush, that drive him to this day to bring them to life on his canvasses. • His 3-year artist residency at Leopard Creek, a luxury golf estate on the banks of the Crocodile River. This pretty much added fuel to his fire to continue painting – even at the tender age of 18 • How his passion and purpose was spurred on at different points in his journey by teachers, peers, art studios and galleries • The reason I asked him to come on the show. Darryn’s level of proficiency in his artwork makes him a thought-leading subject matter expert in my eyes (and I wanted to see what he thought about this). • Marketable Value. We talk about how he wiggled his way through working out how to price his work over time. • His definition of personal brand and how he sees this working for himself and other artists. • What his ‘in the flow’ state looks and feels like. He shares how he has cracked getting himself into that state as quick as possible each day, so he can be as productive as possible. I’m hoping you’ll get from this episode that it is so very important as a subject matter expert to share your back story and how you do what you do. By doing this you give your audience the ability to see your uniqueness for themselves and to get to really know you – the professional behind the work. One of the other things I got from Darryn’s sharing was to clearly identify where your genius lies and create the environment where you can help it flourish. He has re-enforced for me that your value as a subject matter expert lies in this heady mix of depth of knowledge, experience, character and thoughtful, nuanced approach. This is what drives the meat and bones of your marketable value as a service provider, as well as in how you position and relate yourself to the outside world - through your personal brand.
