Welcome to another episode of Vocal Technologist for our Product Thursdays playlist! Today we are looking at how artificial intelligence is completely reshaping the design landscape. Companies are increasing their demand for designers, with artificial intelligence driving renewed momentum in hiring. As the industry shifts, human creativity and intuition are becoming our most valuable professional assets. Major platforms are seeing massive growth and integrating new features. Canva recently closed out the year with four billion dollars in annual recurring revenue, largely driven by users adopting their AI tools. Figma is also changing the workflow by allowing users to send work from Claude Code directly into fully editable canvas layers. In the website building space, WordPress has launched an opt in AI assistant that lets users edit and organise their sites using simple prompts. However, this rapid innovation comes with friction. ByteDance recently launched a new model that generates video clips from text and images. This release quickly caught the attention of Hollywood, with Disney and Paramount sending cease and desist letters over alleged intellectual property violations. On the product and hardware front, we are seeing a mix of practical upgrades and playful rivalries. Airbnb is piloting an AI conversational search to streamline how guests book their stays. Google has upgraded Gemini with a sketch to 3D modelling tool that can convert your drawings into printable files. Meanwhile, Apple is conducting deep research into how users actually want to interact with AI agents, finding that people prefer explicit confirmation in high stakes scenarios. Tech brand Nothing is keeping things provocative by cheekily spray painting over an Apple event invite to tease their own upcoming phone launch. We are also seeing Google refine its minimalist hardware with the Pixel 10a, which features a fully flat camera bar and improved durability. Ultimately, as automated tools become more common, standing out requires strong design fundamentals and thoughtfully crafted human elements. Tune in as we unpack what this means for your creative career! https://vocaltechnologist.cyou
