shoegaze from 1990–1992 or so. lyrics in the cc as available 👁🗨 if there’s anything missing from this mix, leave a comment for it. sharing music is fun ♥ artwork was done by me. the pedals are from kevin shield (my bloody valentine)'s setup circa 2008 http://www.effectsbay.com/2011/08/kev... 📼 tracklist 00:00 crystal eyes - the nightblooms 02:00 downer - lush 04:38 honey power - my bloody valentine 07:42 breather - chapterhouse 11:56 what’s - the ecstasy of saint theresa 14:05 tone bender - lilys 17:10 when you were mine - coaltar of the deepers 21:00 sleep - slowdive ✂️ more info crystal eyes ∙ the nightblooms ∙ crystal eyes EP (march 1990) ∙ holland after releasing their self titled LP in 1992, the nightblooms were popular in germany and the UK, and gained a cult following in the US. this track was popular enough that they recorded a peel session later that year downer ∙ lush ∙ gala (november 1990) ∙ england downer was originally released in february of 1990 on the B side of mad love EP, but i wanted to open with the nightblooms so i used the gala release date. gala is a compilation of lush’s earlier EPs, released to break into the US and japanese market (it worked pretty well, honestly) honey power ∙ my bloody valentine ∙ tremolo EP (february 1991) ∙ ireland released months before my bloody valentine’s magnum opus loveless, honey power ends with a beautiful coda that i cut from this mix. mbv guitarist kevin shields says it was meant to be another song; “tremolo had seven tracks on it, but you're not allowed to do that, so we called it four tracks and didn't name three of them. people just thought they were weird bits!" breather ∙ chapterhouse ∙ whirlpool (april 1991) ∙ england unfortunately, whirlpool didn’t take off because nirvana made their debut in the UK later that year. the album was rereleased in 2006 by the cherry red label, with lyrics and the remaining tracks of chapterhouse’s older EPs (satin safe is one of my favorite chapter house tracks) what’s ∙ the ecstasy of saint theresa ∙ pigment EP (july, 1991) ∙ czechoslovakia the ecstasy of saint theresa began as a shoegaze band in the early 90s, but started producing electronic music after their instruments were stolen in 1994. they’re one of the few czech bands to be recognized abroad, having recorded a peel session in 1993 tone bender ∙ lilys ∙ in the presence of nothing (september 1992) ∙ united states in the presence of nothing has been called a follow up to my bloody valentine’s loveless, with a lot of similarities to their sound. the album title is a dig at velvet crush’s in the presence of greatness, but some say it’s a reference a shoegazing winter that came about after my bloody valentine broke up. there was still shoegaze after loveless, guys when you were mine ∙ coaltar of the deepers ∙ sinking slowly EP (november 1992) ∙ japan a cover of prince’s when you were mine, this track was also featured on cotd’s debut white EP. the sinking slowly version features cotd frontman narasaki on vocals, but is less noisy than the original. narasaki has such a cute voice ♥ also check out rinjyu zange, narasaki’s entry to the punk scene before founding cotd sleep ∙ slowdive ∙ i saw the sun (unreleased, likely pre-1993) ∙ england this is a demo from an unreleased slowdive album, and a cover featuring new lyrics for a song by eternal, slowdive guitarist christian savill’s earlier band. these tracks were released on the hide yer eyes bootleg in 2011, but are believed to be recorded before the release of slowdive’s magnum opus souvlaki in 1993. i went with this demo because it’s my favorite slowdive track, as good as their studio albums are
