I was appointed a consultant at the Charing Cross Hospital in 1992 and started a private practice at that time. I now devote all my time to my private practice where I undertake cosmetic surgery. I have a special interest in facial cosmetic surgery and was one of the first surgeons in the country to incorporate the use of lasers and non-surgical treatments into my practice. With my colleagues at Cosmetic Surgery Partners, I have also pioneered some operations including the PSP facelift. FMLTV: What tips would you have on finding a good cosmetic surgeon online? MR NICK PERCIVAL: I recognise that finding a good cosmetic surgeon is a bit of a mine-field. Whilst I appreciate that personal recommendations are very useful, we do understand that through sites such as TripAdvisor that it can be difficult because of the unidentifiable nature of the internet. So I would advise patients looking for a good cosmetic surgery to do a bit of homework, a bit of background work. What you should look for is whether a surgeon is a specialist and how many operations does he do. You can find out if the surgeon is a consultant plastic surgeon by going on the GMC website. You can also find if a specialist does a lot of cosmetic surgery by seeing if he is a member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (the BAAPS). You can look at that on their website. Then find out: Has the surgeon been a consultant at the NHS? That gives some degree of authenticity to them and shows that they have a certain degree of experience and expertise. Do they devote their time to some specialist treatments? How many of the treatments that you want does this surgeon do every year? And find out a little bit about what they could offer you in terms of if you have any problems or issues after the surgery? How those matters will be dealt with? It is well worth doing a bit of background information digging out about the surgeon before you have your consultation. FMLTV: Which treatments do you provide at Cosmetic Surgery Partners? MR NICK PERCIVAL: Cosmetic Surgery Partners offers a wide range of procedures. We have a number of surgeons who work with us. My particular interest is facial aesthetic surgery and therefore I undertake face-lifts, endoscopic brow-lifts, eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty), eye-bag removal, rhinoplasty (nose jobs) and neck-lifts. My colleague has a special interest in breast surgery. Therefore, he undertakes a lot of breast augmentations, breast reductions and breast uplift procedures. We also undertake body contouring procedures. We do Vaser Ultrasonic Liposuction. And also, we perform tummy tucks, abdominoplasty, thigh-lifts and arm-lifts. So we really offer a comprehensive range, including also some of the non-surgical treatments such as injectables, Botox and fillers and so on.
