Concerto in three quasi movements for oboe and orchestra,. Included in this orchestra is a double reed section instead of the usual woodwinds. The concerto is based on the soundscapes of the Indonesian gamelan, from the rhythmic drive and overlapping resonances of the double reed section to ornamentations akin to the singing style of the Javanese sindhen, and most importantly, incorporating the importance of the Gong which marks the structures of gamelan music. In this piece, you will hear how the Gong is used to fragment and abstract the structure of the music itself. Year of Composition: 2024
