SOUNDBITE (English) Zindzi Mandela, daughter of Nelson Mandela: "I think it's a celebration of the 67 years that Tata (Nelson Mandela) has given to humanity. We've just been asked to do 67 minutes of a day to the greater cause of humanity, whatever contribution one can give. It's the greatest gift we can give him on his birthday is to say, you know, we understand what you stood for and we are here to live the legacy. It's about the preservation of the legacy. It'll start with 67 minutes, and we are hoping that one day it will be like a global movement for change. It will become a way of life to become, to rise to your highest self and to be a selfless being." 12. Various of volunteers cleaning at the children's home 13. Wide exterior Mandela's house STORYLINE Members of Nelson Mandela's family gathered at a children's home in Soweto on Sunday to plant a vegetable garden as part of Mandela Day celebrations. Graca Machel, Mandela's wife, rolled up her sleeves to show children at the Orlando Children's Home how to grow vegetable seedlings. Zindzi Mandela, Nelson Mandela's daughter from his second marriage to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, was also at the children's home. "I think it's a celebration of the 67 years that Tata has given to humanity, we've just been asked to do 67 minutes of a day to the greater cause of humanity, whatever contribution one can give. It's the greatest gift we can give him on his birthday is to say, you know, we understand what you stood for and we are here to live the legacy," said Zindzi Mandela. The event was organised by the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund as part of numerous similar events across South Africa and around the world, to mark the anti-apartheid leader's 92nd birthday. The aim is for people to devote 67 minutes of the day to helping others, in recognition of Mandela's 67-year fight against oppression. The UN General Assembly on Friday celebrated the inaugural "Nelson Mandela International Day" with tributes to his moral leadership and lifelong commitment to fighting racial oppression and promoting peace.
