Architect Jorge Yulo of Jorge Yulo Architects & Associates (JYAA) designed the Equilateral House. He shifted the house's layout off the 90° grid and placed it on a 60° grid for a more unexpected and organic space planning as it is in nature. The home's exterior - cantilevered forms, angled concrete, and a curved, weathered wall - only invites more curiosity. Yulo's use of concrete will convince you he's Carlo Scarpa reincarnated. Tina Periquet (designer of spaces and visual artist) and Judith Torres (editor) help decode the Equilateral House and the thought process behind it. "The different angles of the facade appear to be dynamic. It's not there waiting to receive you. It's engaging with you the moment you move toward it," observes Periquet. "Whatever sense it is that tell you you're alive, this house makes you feel it," adds Torres. The Equilateral House's use of natural materials with different textures - live edge wood, raw concrete, weathered steel - offer a haptic experience throughout the home while mesmerizing patterns on the ceiling can catch you staring for quite some time. The oculus in the middle of the courtyard is a direct connection to the sky and is open to both the sun and the rain.
