Peggy Guido (Piggott) used this tape measure during the excavation of the Royal ship burial at Sutton Hoo, one of the highlights of the British Museum. Peggy is one of those featured in the film - "The Dig", where she is played by the actor Lily James. As a skilled excavator, Peggy and her then husband, Stuart Piggott, were asked to take part in the excavations at Sutton Hoo in 1939. Peggy had a distinguished career as an archaeologist, particularly as a specialist in beads, both prehistoric and Saxon. She moved to Devizes in 1977 and became President of the Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Society that runs the Wiltshire Museum.
