The R-1 was the iconic rifle used by Rhodesian Armed Forces against the communist guerilla fighters. It's pretty much an FN FAL illegally imported by the South Africans with scrubbed identification marks. It was used to its full extent for 15 years and was a deadly battle rifle in the jungles since it utilized the 7.62x51NATO cartridge. It is also famous for the iconic Rhodesian brush stroke paint.
