Help us continue the music in 2020 and beyond by making a donation of any size at https://www.musicsh.org/donate The centerpiece of Music in the Somerset Hills is, and always has been, its Chorus, so we are proud to dedicate this week’s video concert to all those men and women (more than 200 of them) who have sung in the Chorus over the past nine seasons. Much of their greatest work, climaxing in the unforgettable achievement of last December’s Messiah, has already been featured in this series, but we thought you (and they) would like to see some of the memorable moments from other concerts, ranging from that very first Vivaldi Gloria in 2010 to their appearances alongside some of our more famous guests – Canadian Brass, The King’s Singers….. and Peter Dinklage, of course. It’s worth recalling Stephen’s original “mission statement” for the Chorus in 2010, every word of which still applies: The Somerset Hills Chorus is an amateur chorus open to anyone between the ages of 14 and 80 who lives, works or goes to school in the Somerset Hills region – no previous experience necessary. It is a challenging environment – each concert is preceded by six to eight weekly rehearsals – but also a very supportive one. Online practice files are provided, and less experienced (or completely inexperienced) singers are often helped by the more experienced – in some cases by professionals. So this week’s concert is a salute to the Chorus, and an affectionate tribute to all those of you who sing with it – the heart and soul of what we are about, which is bringing music of the highest quality to our community. Thank you!
