LIVE at 12:05: War Ration Books During World War II During World War II, the U.S. government rationed certain foods and consumer goods. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. entered the war which shifted its economic focus to that of war production. Consumer goods took a back seat to military production. In May 1942, the U.S. Office of Price Administration froze prices on practically all everyday goods--starting with sugar and coffee. War ration books and tokens were issued to each American family--dictating amounts that one person could buy. Items such as gasoline, tires, sugar, meat, shoes and nylon were rationed. Tune in as Registrar Sheila Williams-Morales highlights several ration books in the museum’s collection. #inthecollection #rationbooks #worldwar2 #smallmuseumsrock www.historicisleofwight.com Recorded and produced January 15, 2026.
