First of all, not every text message needs a response. If you're texting your ex and you're not asking a specific question, then there is a possibility that your ex may not even think that they need to respond to you. Ending a text with something like "hope you're doing well" is an example of this. Frankly, there just isn’t a reason to respond to texts like this, so your ex may not respond at all. After all, your ex probably doesn’t want to seem as if they are over-invested in interacting with you. They wan’t to only be invested if you are also invested. And a vague throw-away phrase like “hope you’re doing well” isn’t going to show that you’re invested much at all. Other times, questions that are vague and very commonly tossed around such as "what's up?" or "how's it going?" can often be ignored too. In our society, we often use these sorts of questions as a general greeting such as "hello" and we often don't even stop to listen for the answer when someone asks a questions like these. Even if you actually care about the answer, your ex might see it as a throw-away line, much like people use when they are greeting their barista at the local coffee shop. So try to use more specific questions that stick out to your ex as something that is more thoughtful or intentional. Another reason that your ex may not text you back is because what you are sending them may seem either (1) too dull and boring, such as talking about the weather, TV shows, sports, etc. or (2) too intense such as rehashing things from the breakup or talk about "relationship" stuff. To avoid this trap, be sure to stay connected to how your ex is experiencing the moment and stay dialed into the emotional connection between you and your ex. Remember, that the most important thing to reconnecting with your ex and texting your ex is to focus on the emotional connection Of course this will be more difficult over text, but it is not impossible.
