Shaped as a sleeping baby, you can customize it as a boy or girl, if you know the baby's sex prior to the shower! This is NOT a CAKE as in a cake that you eat. This is named a "cake" because the more 'traditional' diaper "cakes" were build to resemble an actual cake. This is a different type of those diaper cakes, something fresh, new, innovative. I did not name this, it is just something that people search for when trying to find the directions. I would be silly to not include these same keywords into my title or search words for them to find it. Now let's get over the fact that this is not something you can actually eat for goodness sake. //end rant I want to thank Patti for sending me a photo of this in February. The one she sent didn't have a head and I felt like a head would be much better. So I'm glad I found one that had a head included :) To make this baby diaper cake, you will need: 21 size 1 diapers (you may use other sizes, but adjust amounts accordingly) Newborn long sleeve/long pants or gown Hat Pacifier Blanket Roll 4 diapers in the traditional fashion for arms and legs, secure with rubber band. Roll 6 diapers for the chest. Roll the first the traditional way and then roll the subsequent diapers on top of it creating a large roll. Secure with rubber band. Roll 8 diapers in the same fashion as you did for the chest to create the baby's bottom/butt. Secure with rubber band. Smoosh it down. The head uses 3 diapers. Open up the diaper, then fold in half long ways before rolling. Secure with rubber band. (May not be able to use these, since absorbent stuff may be displaced.) Lay your baby blanket out. Get outfit ready. Start stuffing the legs, arms, then butt and chest. Tuck the neck part in. Tuck in excess of the outfit. Lift butt and slide the leg under the butt so the butt is up in the air. Head: Find the white side. Tuck in pacifier. Cover with hat, covering "eyes" and the back of the head. Then place the head where it looks real. Tuck the arm under body or just next to it. Cover hands with mittens. Place booties on feet if you like. Embellish the baby with a teddy bear.
