Cape Crusade | Multi Day Trail Running in South Africa

I'm in Cape Town, South Africa and thought that a different way to see places might be to do some running events....and I'm glad I did. The Cape Crusade Trail run is a realtively small event on the western cape, near Grabouw. It's a 3 day event where you can either choose to run 20km per day (the crusade), or 10km a day (the cruise). It's amongst beautiful scenery with a good, but not devestating, amount of elevation. I loved the event. It was very different to normal events, especially in Europe. The distances were relatively vague, there was no course map or elevation profile sent through beforehand so no real planning, just running. I would actually describe it more of a tour/adventure, rather than a race as the common format is in pairs. I'm not used to these sorts of events but couple some good food, friendly people and the incredible setting, and I was a convert. Thanks to Adriaan for letting me run solo! I hadn't considered it before, but if you want to get away from the normal tourist route and like activities, these sorts of events are a great way to do it. Plus you get to see places that others simply won't - in this case some of the views further into the countryside or the world heritage site where they use to transport goods via oxcart. If you're in the area, give it a go. You won't be disappointed.
