Recorded on the 1st of February 1967, as part of the early sessions for the album "Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band", Take 9 is the basic track recording of the song that would later become the opening track on the album. Paul McCartney came up with the idea for the song while on a flight towards the end of 1966. In conversation with their tour manager Mal Evans, who had been served the ‘Salt’ and ‘Pepper’-labeled in-flight meals, the idea of ‘Sgt. Pepper’ came into play. As the idea of the song developed, the idea of the band developed as well, which would allow the Beatles to claim that the album was the work of the "Lonely Hearts Club Band". This is the basic version of the song, recorded before the brass parts, the lead guitar, the vocals and the audience recordings were added. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sgt.
