Last year, a powerful storm toppled a large, mature tree growing on the backside of a pond dam — ripping out a major section of the dam and damaging the spillway discharge pipe in the process. One year later, the damage still hasn’t been repaired, largely due to the high cost and complexity of fixing a failure located right next to the spillway. This video revisits that site and sounds the alarm once again: large trees do not belong on dams — even on the backside. Location is everything. When trees grow near critical infrastructure like spillways, a single failure can turn a manageable repair into a major engineering and financial challenge. Just because a tree has stood for decades without incident doesn’t mean it’s safe. If you own or manage a pond or small lake, this is a risk you need to understand before nature makes the decision for you. #pondmanagement #damsafety #PondDam #LakeManagement #erosioncontrol #spillway #StormDamage #treeroots #infrastructurefailure #LandownerTips #PondOwners #environmentalawareness #blackbass #blackbassfishing #pondfishing
