A real sleeper, and not just in the title - Adrian Schubert and His Orchestra (as the Southern Night Hawks) play Halsey K. Mohr's "Georgia Lullaby", featuring a string of solos after Scrappy Lambert's vocal. Adrian Schubert - directing: ?Tommy Gott and Bob Effros - trumpets/ trombone/ Andy Sannella and ?Larry Abbott - alto saxes, clarinets/ tenor sax, soprano sax/ ?Harry Merkur - piano/ banjo/ brass bass/ ?Joe Green - drums/ Harold "Scrappy" Lambert - vocals During the 1920s, the Regal Record Co. recorded hundreds of non-published tunes to issue on their labels to save on production costs, through not having to royalties on one side of the disc. Regular composers included Walter C. Ness, Murray Sturm, Halsey K. Mohr, Adorján Ötvös and others - Andy Razaf contributed at least one tune! From 1927 on, the majority of these songs were intended for issue on Banner, Oriole and Jewel, the 'budget' labels even by the standards of Regal. Many also found their way into Canada, where the Compo Co. of Montreal had their own group of cheap labels. I haven't found any reference to "Georgia Lullaby" having been issued outside of Canada, and due to this I suspect it's quite scarce. The recording engineer was incredibly quick to cut the runout groove on this side, leaving around a 10th of a second after the final cymbal crash!
