Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/solas_composer/bear... By Solas Composer ► Full Dark Fantasy Playlist: tinyurl.com/2p8df348 Created out of inspiration by several boss themes having been listening over every Elden Ring boss theme for a while. This song is especially inspired by Maliketh's official theme in the fight and the overall elegant flow of the rhythm that matches his elegant yet ferocious style of combat in the second phase. Hope you enjoy my boss fight/theme inspired by the holder of death in The Black Blade himself. Lore: _____ Maliketh was the half-brother of Queen Marika the Eternal, a Numen empyrean who would ascend to godhood as the vessel of the Elden Ring. Maliketh was her sworn shadow and unquestionably loyal. On her behalf, he fought the Gloam-Eyed Queen, another empyrean, and sealed away the power of her Black Flame. Desiring a world without Destined Death, Marika took the Rune of Death from the Elden Ring and charged Maliketh with protecting it. Maliketh's blade was imbued with the power of the rune, making him a peerless foe for any who would challenge Marika's order. Maliketh, throughout the long "Age of the Erdtree", preformed his duties faithfully. That was until the Night of Black Knives, when a group of Numen Assassins commanded by Lunar Princess Ranni stole a fragment of Destined Death and imbued it into their own daggers, granting them the power to kill the until that moment immortal demigods. With these daggers, the assassins killed several demigods, among them Marika's firstborn Godwyn the Golden and Ranni herself, leading to the Shattering. In his shame, Maliketh bound his blade within his own flesh, so that none could ever steal the power of death again. Doing so caused him to become eternally hungry, gnawing at the corruptive deathroot that sprouted from the roots of the Erdtree following the burial of Godwyn's undead flesh at its roots. He took the name "Gurranq, Beast Clergyman" and began recruiting followers to weed out deathroot, which became a source of Those Who Live in Death. Gurranq's followers feed him deathroot to satisfy his unending hunger. One of Gurranq's followers was a hunter of the undead known as D. During a chance encounter, D witnessed a Tarnished champion defeat a Tibia Mariner and offered the Tarnished the opportunity to work for Gurranq. The champion began weeding out deathroot in exchange for Gurranq sharing with them the power of beasts. As the Tarnished fed Gurranq the foul root, his bestial nature began to return. Briefly forgetting himself and his purpose, Gurranq lashes out at the Tarnished and attempts to kill them. After a brief battle, Gurranq regains control of himself, and begs the Tarnished to stop. After a long and faithful service, the Tarnished champion eventually manages to weed out all the deathroot in the Lands Between and feeds it to Gurranq. Even with all the deathroot consumed, Gurranq's appetite was not nearly sated. Frustrated, Gurranq thanks the Tarnished champion for their long labor, but having done all he can in the Lands Between, he departs. Gurranq comes to reside in Crumbling Farum Azula, his appetite his sole companion. Eventually, the very Tarnished champion who had served him comes to steal the rune of death. Hurt by the betrayal, Gurranq attempts to fight them off, but is too weak. He is forced to unleash the power of the rune itself, attacking them with the full brunt of his powers as Maliketh, the Black Blade. Not even this is enough to emerge victorious however, and Maliketh dies as he begs Marika for forgiveness.
